Days like today at work remind me why I need to become self employed and find multiple sources of income. The potential is there but the money is not. I need to get some businesses going where I can work remotely and have residual income from them. They will eventually turn into investments which pay me monthly over time.

My dream is to not have to come back at all except for passport renewals and family visits. I want to live full time abroad near a nice beach. I would have my businesses and investments to keep me busy. I would also have this blog.

I am working on many side projects at once at the moment and hope then turn out well. If they do then I can expand further into other things and snowball the money. This is my only chance at getting what I want. I am determined and will get out of here ASAP.

That said I am off to New York at 4AM for work tomorrow! I hate waking up early.

So it turns out that I am going on a day trip to New York next Tuesday. I have to go visit a few client sites but I will have a much needed change in pace. I got a great deal on the airfare at $157 all in for a same day return.

I fly into LGA and back out of JFK. I am of course flying Delta to get more miles and it was cheapest. I wish I could spend more time there but work is work.

I am going to my (younger) cousin’s wedding on Dec 13 and return Dec 14. I had to use miles for this trip since it was short notice. I am not even leaving the state but it saves me 10 hours of driving in 2 days.

It has been a long time since I have been to a wedding. I am doing this more for my family and less for myself. Anything that takes me back to my home town is generally not a good thing. Fortunately due to limited time off I can only stay 1 night.

This is more of a chore than travel but still travel none-the-less.

Belize Hostel Booked!

I have decided that I am going to stay only on the Cayes in Belize for this trip. I need some relaxation time and I cannot think of a better place than small islands in the Gulf of Mexico. I booked a place in San Pedro so I don’t have to worry about where I am going to stay for the first few nights.

Pedro Backpacker’s Inn was my choice. It is reasonable ($10 USD per night) and the pictures look nice. It also has a pub and pizza place within it. It also has a good location.

I am dividing my time between San Pedro and Caye Caulker. I will fly directly form the island to the International Airport to save time on the way back. On the way in I will take a taxi to Belize City and water taxi to the islands. I am looking forward to a week on the beach in 80F weather!

I am applying to be part of a clinical research study on a new jet lag medicine. It includes 4 days on the French/German border and a flight to and from there on a private jet. If I complete the entire study I will get $2500. If I do not get accepted I will be compensated for the time I have spent.

If you are curious you can read more at www.jetlagstudty.com. I think they are still looking for more people to participate. I believe this will be at interesting experience and I am really curious if the pill works. It would be great to be able to travel and not have to suffer with jet lag. I get it pretty bad and hate it!

One of my younger cousins is getting married on Dec 13. This means I have to go home for that weekend. I am trying to work out if I should fly (a lot less stress and more money or miles) or drive (4.5 hours each way, 2 days back to back, very LONG weekend). I am looking at flying so I will not be tired and upset the entire time.

I also have to factor in that about 2 days later I will be going right back for Christmas. I will most likely drive for that unless I get a really good deal on a flight. I am still hoping for a good deal form Delta but I am not holding my breath.

My aunt is taking a 6-month teaching position in the Commonwealth of Dominica. She will be there from Jan to June 09 and I have a free place to stay. I am strongly consdiering spending a week of my vacation time to go down and check it out. I know very little of the place.

Last time she was there she brought me a couple of local beers from there which were good. I am looking forward to cheap food, nice beaches, and good snorkeling. You can see more about the country here on Wikipedia.

She will have a free place for me to stay in her furnished 3 bedroom house so all I have to worry about it airfare and food. I like cheap travel! I also like that I will get to go to a place that most people have never heard of.

Planning for Belize

The trip is fast approaching and I am now getting time to figure out what I want to do in the 6 days I have there. I am probably going to skip over Belize City by suggestion from the LP and forums I have read.

My plan is to start off in the western mainland of the country to see some Mayan ruins and maybe a national park if time permits. I will then head to Cay Caulker to spend some beach/reggae time. To save time and hassle I may fly directly from the Island to the airport and connect to my flight back home.

I wish I had more time to see all of what Belize has to offer but I think this will be better than turkey in south GA. I also like adding another country to my list this year and using up all my vacation time.

So I am going to Indiana for a few days next month. I just booked my flight from ATL to IND on Delta for $199. I depart the night of Nov. 17 and return the night of Nov 20. I will earn another 1000 MQMs bringing me a little closer to Gold Medallion.

I must admit that it is not the most exciting place on earth but it is my job. I am still holding out for Vegas but I am still not sure on that one. We shall see.

I just bought the Lonely Planet guide for Belize. I find their maps and info invaluable and I don’t have to waste time researching and printing. I get them from amazon.com since they are always the cheapest. I also ordered the Spanish phrasebook and some other filler items to cross the $25 free shipping mark.

I also tend to resell or trade the book after I am done to save money in the long run. Bangkok is a great place to sell/trade travel guides and other books. A great way to keep your backpack lighter and less cluttered.
