I have finally had a few minutes to upload some more photos to Flickr. I put up about 400 more and organized them. I still have a long way to go but one must start somewhere. I am uploading in ABC order.

I decided that I still need to have a cheap point and shoot digital camera for smaller occasions and lighter short trips. They are also good for self photos and nights at the bar. I will not be taking my SLR to Belize since I will only be there for a week.
I got a Canon A530 (same as I had before) on ebay for $47 shipped. I am familiar with it and liked the quality of images that it produced. If it breaks or gets wet I won’t be too upset since it was cheap. I also got a hard case for it for $7 on eBay as well. Not bad!
I am still trying to get my photos uploaded to Flickr. It is going to take a while and has become low priority. I hope to have them back online by the end of the year.
I have decided that I am going to take the dive and upload everything to Flickr. This will take a long time but I will repost the link to my photos once I get it back up. It will take a couple of weeks but needs to be done.
This is always a difficult thing to maintain while on the road. I have multiple strategies that I employ to make sure I do not lose my photos. Everything else is replacable with the exception of photos.
When possible I will upload to a site such as facebook or flickr or even ftp to my website. An external hard drive and/or flash drive/ipod/etc is helpful. Do not delete photos from your memory cards and have multiple cards for space. Last resort can be CD/DVD and actual prints.
Once back to a base or home you can get them more organized and backed up. You can clear off the memory cards and keep on going. I tend to take a lot of pictures since I have an unofficial hobby of it. This is also time to photoshop them and crop them for various uses.
I lost my photos 1 time and learned my lesson. Having to do data recovery on a memory card is not a pretty process. Don’t get stuck like I did!
Well it looks like my database is hosed so my photo site is down until I have time to completely recreate and reupload everything. I am evaluating my options as to what is the best approach now. I am not sure if I will simply reuse my current software or change.
I will post more when I know more.
Seems that something crapped out my database for gallery. This has lead to my photos site not working. I am trying to get it fixed but it does not look good.
I may end up having to redo it completely. I am not looking forward to reuploading over 8000 photos but I may have no choice. I am going to look into alternatives as well. I will keep you posted.
I just got my new wide angle and telephoto lenses that I bought on eBay. I can’t wait to have time to play with them and see how they do. They will be useful for travel as I can take city and panoramic shots. They were not very expensive so I hope the quality is good.
I got a 0.45x wide angle lens and a 2x telephoto lens to fit my Nikon D50. They come with a 15 year warranty. I like new toys!
I am making an attempt to learn how to correctly shoot HDR (High Dynamic Range) photos. My first couple of tests came out grainy. After some research chances are that my ISO is set too high. I will have to redo it and see how it goes.
I want to use this technology for the “great” photos I take when I travel. It also forces me to use that tripod that I will be lugging around. I have seem some truly amazing photos done with HDR and I want to create a few of my own, if possible. Who knows: maybe someone will want to buy a few one day.
So I will have to keep working at it and hope I can figure it out. It will definitely take time and dedication on my part to get it sorted. They payoff is worth it, though.
